BFNC GABLES TOUR

On this Wednesday, the Brereton Field Naturalists are leading a walking tour of the Gables woods in Barrie. It's a nature walk where you will learn a lot about plants and the animals found within these woods as well as learn interesting historical tidbits about Barrie's past with this woodlot on the lake. This 43 acre natural park within the City of Barrie has many attractive features—forested shoreline on Kempenfelt Bay, hardwood forests, pine plantations, native wildflowers and naturalized spring bulbs such as yellow anemones and spring squill. It is also a spot that attracts migrant birds. You can meet at the LLPL in the north end at 6:00 p.m. to rendezvous with others who will guide you to the park in the south end. Or, if you know where the Gables are, you can just arrive at Gables parking lot at 6:20 pm. The park is located at the corner of Tollendale Mills Road and Hurst Drive but it is also well found in Google maps. Easy walk on maintained trails. Bring your binoculars and camera. The indomitable Phyllis Tremblay will be leading the walk. YOu can reach her at 705 737-2580 if you have any questions. The walk will be done by approximately 8:00 p.m. Non members are welcome and families are encouraged to join the tour. Enjoy!
