It had been so cold. Not only coming into the world, but the greeting she had when she had come to it. The first breaths of life had not filled her lungs before the echos of demon whispered through her ears. Bites alternated with licks on her flesh from the moment she was born. Heavy and deep gasps whispered her being until at least they ceased. Hunger and starvation were different. When at last she could open her eyes to see, she sought both.Weak legs struggled to take her away, take her to life.
The tips of her red nose twitched, scenting the air without knowing what any of the signals it gave her meant. Her eyes were open, but the baby blues had started to shift to red and could not interpret what was around her, nor what the red on her coat was that was not her own coloring. Blood mixed into the grey of her coat. Color splashed up her face and continued into her ears. Real blood continued over her head to join back up with her natural hues around her neck. Flecks of bloody saliva had dried on the rest of her body, confusing what was her coat with what was not. Curling up in the rocks, eyes wide with fear, she began to whimper. No tears fell from her eyes, she already knew this was no place them. She was no one for them. They would not make a difference in the world. Her voice even quieted, but above her the clouds had begun to roll. She looked up, blinking as rain began to fall into her red eyes. A sigh deeper than any that should have come from one so small, moved her body into the ground. The rain began to pour down harder, washing away the spit and the blood, replacing it with mere mud and dirt.
Mud and dirt. So much better than demon and spawn. The Pariah closed her eyes. A final whimper, she set herself to let the rain take her away.
