All Hallowed

are the dead really silent?

Winter has swept over the rolling hills of the Prairie. The cold winds were warm compared to those of the home I still held dear. This was the place for me now. Though my soul still wandered my body called to here where a purpose and a place was set before me. I watched as my sister continued to grow. Her features starting to grow from fine and delicate to strong and bold. The gypsy blood was strong in her bones and in her spirit. She often moved close to the border of the forest and back again, warned of going too far from a herdland without someone nearby. Her life and her future was a curiosity to me. She had so much potential, so much she could do. I look in the direction I know our lead tended to frequent. My sister could be so much if she were allowed to. I could feel my ears lace back into the long hair of my mane. Nothing would stop that spirit from flying free.

The man who ruled the prairie was something of an interest to me as well. He had accepted two strangers from another man into his home. One of the stranger a sure future threat. At the time we had been nothing. She barely seasons old and I still growing into a body that would be just as bold as his. Time changed us all, and it was clear we were not going to be nothing for long. Yet he had not raised the question of our paths in these plains. I step in the direction I know him to be. It was I who was going to raise the question instead.

I come upon Shamwari against an old oak. I breath slowly into the winter air, my breath misting in the cold almost the same color as my ghostly body. Light eyes look over the man and the tree that had descended into slumber. I wonder if he could feel the life drifting in and out of his land. Could he feel the vibrations of the forces of nature and fate around us? Or did he merely witness them through the eyes of the living without truly knowing what what it meant to the dead?

A soft snort and I let the thoughts flow out of my mind. I stepped toward and extended my muzzle to the stallion. A breath and a greeting.

“What do you want from us?” My words are blunt and abrupt. Odd against my soft voice that cannot seem to deepen with age nor build. I stare at the man with observant eyes. I was a stallion in his home, permitted to stay. The world insisted I must earn that permission. My father would have said I needed to earn that loyalty. I felt as though there was more to it than that.
