GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

I didn't anticipate this when I told Pagan I'd look after his kids. Perhaps I should have thought more about it. I am no child. I am barely older than Samhain myself. I am not a grizzled, experienced band stallion. I haven't done this for years nor do have I the kin to show for it. I'm ambling my way through this as I have done with pretty much everything in my life thus far. I accept the challenges that come my way, and react to them once they get here. Samhain needs something else. He needs guidance. Discipline, maybe. I'm not sure I can be the mentor or leader he needs me to be. But I guess I'll have to step up to the challenge.

"Listen Samhain." I begin, trying to cut him off from his ramblings. Maybe the Lagoon had been better for me than I once thought. It gave me perspective. It made me feel like I wasn't born to serve one purpose. I could choose my own route. "You are young. So young. You have much to learn." This is about as much wisdom as I feel I can spout to the boy. But I know I have to give him something. I must plant a seed.

"But you show a lot of promise. Your father was right about that." I say calmly, with the gentle flick of my firy red tail. "I am in need of a second stallion to keep watch over the herd. To step up and make decisions when I am not here or am unable. I think you could be a good fit." This, of course, means he could begin to build his own family in the Prairie, too.

I watch him now, my jaws checking on nothing but air, waiting to gauge how to responds to such an idea. "But you'll have to prove you're capable first."
