The meeting went on for a time. Niviaq looked over my wounds, cleaning and treating them as wolves socialized amongst themselves and with me. Aurelia and Arthfael had both made it known that they wished to work towards the position of Mercenary, and already my mind was working over what other rank might suit either of them, for only one could accomplish the tasks required of Mercenary first. A howl from Pan notified me that he wished to retire. Sleekwing, too, had taken a moment to inform me that he intended to retire within the year, but that he would not do so without finding a suitable replacement first. I gave him the responsibility of setting forth whatever tasks he saw fit for those who might wish to show their merit. In the days to come I would seek out Pan and request a final service of him - his advice on who might make a good replacement for him, and his ideas on how to test their aptitude for such a role.
But as the meeting slowly drew to an end, wolves moving off in different directions to enjoy the peaceful night that was to come, a single wolf remained, and I finally motioned to her to join me as I took my own departure towards the trail that led down to my old den.
I was uncertain if it would be good or bad, but I knew that it was something that she should not be made to wait to share with me.
