He picks up his pace to match mine and we run together through the jungle, his joy so infectious that I can’t help but whinny with him over the pounding sounds of our hooves and the rain. We come upon FatherSound all at once, breaking through the edge of the trees and leaping over a sudden dropoff as the ground cuts to beach, greeted by the crashing waves and the overwhelming sound of water hitting water a thousand times over. The gold stallion races ahead and I fling my head back to avoid getting hit in the face with clods of wet sand and other beach debris as I follow him down the wet slope.
He reaches the water before I do and ducks his head straight under the waves before surfacing and spinning to face me. I continue my headlong rush into the waves and am slowed only by the drag of water over my legs but I keep going, deliberately splashing as I near my friend with the intent to douse him with even more water. We are both soaked to the bone. He looks happy, a vibrant light in his eyes, and I know my expression matches his.
I laugh and strike the waves again to send another wave at him before plunging suddenly to the left. In my haste to get away I go further toward the ocean and not the beach, and feel the sand slope alarmingly away from my small hooves. Water rushes up my nose and I gasp, pulling in more salt as my eyes close and my ears pin, but feel my feet on something solid and push off. Coughing and snorting I find myself in shallower water and shake my head as my hooves continue to dance on the sand under the water, checking and rechecking the depths in which I stand before my eyes clear enough where I can open them again and see for myself. I snort again, blowing salt and moisture from my nose before I wrinkle it goodnaturedly at my gold companion. "Maybe I should learn how to swim, huh?" I ask over the storming waves, and laugh. |
