- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands - anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents - adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm - the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head - the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors | ||

There were issues at foot I did not expect her to understand. I couldn't tell her Kasabian was here, holed away in the Lagoon. She wouldn't understand. She hadn't seen him in years. She couldn't even begin to comprehend what kind of man he was now. There was no way for me to explain to her that despite the fondness I have for my brother, one she didn't even know I knew, I couldn't trust him. Someone was unhinged inside of him and I feared for her safety, if the stud ever found her. Gabbar couldn't have been a more perfect suitor in that regard. Kasabian and Gabbar had met once, back when the two of us lived in the Lagoon. It hadn't gone well. Kasabian droned on for weeks after how he'd rather die than ever return to Salem again. He wouldn't go looking for Evaline there. Nevertheless, I did anticipate Evaline's reaction. We had hardly repaired our own relationship and now I was shipping her out to live on another island. It was for the best, even though I knew it would probably be weeks, hell, even months, before she'd want to see or talk to me again. "Paradiso will stay here. He's old enough now. And soon enough, he'll be old enough to move on by himself." I say, still averting her gaze. It would do the boy some, good, I think, to part from his mother. Out of all of Evaline's children, he is the most timid and unsure of himself. He is the most attached to her side. In some ways, I think that gives her reprieve, knowing at least she'll always have him around to look out and take care of her. She won't like knowing that she has to leave him behind. Gabbar begins to speak and I welcome the distraction. Whatever dissonance that spanned between us has seemingly melted away with the terms of this trade. I appreciate his willingness to put hard feelings aside and repair some sort of allegiance between our two homes. I may need to call on him one day. Upon his explanation of himself and his morals I return his grin with one of my own and the gentle bob of my head. I hold on to a glimmer of hope that Evaline will eventually find happiness alongside Gabbar. "Thank you, Gabbar, for your own willingness to move past what happened on the shores of your home not so long ago." I say, my glare bounhing from him to Evaline. "I take no pride in stealing from others and am honestly quite ashamed of it."
