the way we get by

nuru
Although Nuru expected a violent and aggressive reaction, he didn't get one. The appaloosa let his body relax and pushed his ears forward. He stepped further forward to lean against one of the small tress clustered in this spot, twisting his head to regard the stallion with one eye. The light danced spottily on his ash colored coat, but Nuru couldn't help but peer curiously at what looked like a line along the other's spine. His old herd had been full of white markings and plain but bold colors, but he had never seen a coat like this!

He turned his head back to its normal position once the stallion spoke and ripped his gaze away from the interesting pattern to focus back on the stallion's face. "Oh, well, I passed through there, but this is what I really wanted to see," he admitted. "It's nice, though. The grass is tall and the stars are bright." He didn't know what else to say about the land. He didn't live there, and a quick trot through wasn't exploring in his book. His ears flicked lightly as a gentle breeze swept through the forest and rustled the leaves.

He found his eyes wandering back to the strange stripe along the stallion's spine. He couldn't tell if it was a marking, or if it was something else entirely. He blinked and tossed his brown and white mane. "What's that on your back?" he finally asked, glancing back at the stallion's face to see if he even knew it was there. He shifted his weight uneasily and resisted the urge to check his own back for the stripe.
