The happy grin on the filly’s face momentarily faded. Her memory of the Inlet was scarce. She had been so young when their father had sent them away to safety and a herd. She remembered that it was cold, and that Samhain often looked to the north When he seemed lost in his trances. He told her much of the island they had called home but she could barely fathom it. She held none of the longing Samhain did, and she knew she would remain by her side until he could ensure she was safely under the protection of another. With a self-disappointed sigh she answered the appaloosa with the only answer she had. It is a territory on Tinuvel. It used to belong to my father, but he sent us here before he left! For a moment she held her comment in her chest. Vaguely she remembered the feeling of her father’s breath on her face and the comforting words his deep voice often spoke to her. She smiled to herself. If that was all she could remember of her father and the life before the Prairie, she would treasure it and let his strength fuel her in the power of the world around her.
Ostara whickered happily when her friend stepped forward to join their small gathering. With glee she realized she HAD met another star kissed stallion! She was truly blessed by the gods! Or at least her friends were. She tossed her head happily and pranced in place, keeping herself in front of Paradiso. Her movements and seeming natural. She knew the shy nature of her friend and stuck by his side to support him without flaunting his cautious habits. As subtle as her habits were, the sneaky roll of her eyes and the curve of her grin on her face were anything but. It was a tune she had heard too many times from Paradiso, her brother, and anyone who thought she had been away from the others too long. There had been many times she had stomped her foot at them and purposefully trotted away in disobedience, only to come racing back with laughter and smiles. She had usually been kinder in her teasing with the spotted colt than with her brother.
I am sure Samhain already… She trailed off as Nuru opened up an idea. Ears twitched mischievously, but the rest of her face remained neutral. We can walk slowly, and go that way! She looked to clumps of trees in the opposite direction of where the herd rested. There were trees and small spaces she had yet to explore, areas closer to the Forest than she had been before. Possibly, with Paradiso and another stallion she would be safer to go than she would have been alone. Besides, she trusted in her original assumption; her brother was probably ever watchful nearby.
