climbing like fire through the walls

Rohanne's ears twitched as Nephilim spoke, but that was the only movement she made. Her expression remained the same, and her dark eyes watched him without judgement. It was strange to hear him speaking of his other children. Rohanne had been so swept up in the tragedy of losing her firstborn that she'd never stopped to consider that he'd continued on with his life, and had gone on to sire more foals. Perhaps once this knowledge might have filled her with jealousy, but now, they might as well have been strangers, for Rohanne felt nothing but a mild surprise.

"I'm sorry," she said politely, though she was not exactly sure what she was sorry for; it simply felt appropriate to offer her support. Nephilim may have saved one of his daughters from the same fate that had taken their own, but in the process he had lost his herd. They had both lost so much.

Then he voiced the question that had hovered unspoken in the air. Rohanne shifted her weight, suddenly nervous, and let her gaze drop to the ground. When she looked at him again, it was from beneath her dark forelock with a gleam in her eye. She looked him up and down, admiring the golden spots she had once found so flashy, and remembering the awkward children they had once been, standing in front of each other much as they were doing now. It gave her an odd turn in her stomach to remember her first impression of Nephilim, and how clueless she had been as to what he would become to her.

"If you'll have me," she eventually said, her mouth twitching as she suppressed a smile. "I don't have anywhere better to be."
