Mirage was her’s to mold. She could be whatever she wanted her to be. She could be everything Pariah was not. Mirage would be sweet, and loved. She could be brave and boldly approach those who may scorn her. She could be playful and kind to those around her. Never would she need to steal, never would she bring harm to those around her. Her soul would be free of the burdens of death. Her heart was light, and she laughed easily. She was beautiful. No...she still bore the face of a curse. But it was a mask to cover a mask. Mirage was everything Pariah wished she could be, but Mirage could not exist. One of them would always watch the world through the other’s eyes. The strange eyes that looked up at Malina now with a purpose, a life, and a subtle gleam of hope.
The pup listened attentively to what her new tutor had to tell her. The red tip of her tail quivered and flicked, her hopefulness continuing throughout her body. She enjoyed the idea of not needing to steal food from others. Deep within her, she knew it was wrong. Taking a source of life from another, using it for herself, selfishly denying them their own right to live to save herself. She would do anything to come by the right of life honestly. She listened to Malina’s terms, head tilting slightly to the side in confusion. It sounded to her as though Malina was giving more than she was asking for in return. Pariah snorted softly, more like a contemplative sneeze, as she thought about this. As young as she was, she did not understand the concept of teaching, and learning, and the trade that would inevitably occur between the two. All she knew at this time was that Malina was giving her far more of a chance than she had in her life. It scared her.It excited her.
