REVOLVE WITHIN.

Valve carefully took note of each of the mares’ impressions of her, choosing to hold eye contact with Gabbar just slightly longer, quietly chiding him. Despite how much time as they had spent together, the bay stallion did not know her past or even her deepest desires. She had purposefully kept such information to herself, closely guarded like a playing cards and utilized when beneficial and appropriate. Gabbar’s silence gave Valve the impression that he had not called them here for any sort of announcement, but perhaps only to see if they could all play nice in the sandbox together. It felt contrived and childish, and Valve’s resentment toward the Arabian’s lack of trust weighed on her like a stone in her stomach. Nonetheless, this was not Valve’s first game of poker.

When Avangeline repeated her name, she turned her full attention toward the younger mare, choosing to politely ignore Evaline as casually and politely as she had ignored her—at least for now. Valve smiled warmly, listening to her confession.

“Well Avangeline,” the black mare began. “Your parents have much to be proud of—you are a fine young mare, and I am sure you will be an asset to our herd.”

Valve looked back to the other mare now, searching her face for any indication of interest in the conversation. If she continued to remain apathetic, or show any indication of a sour mood, the dark mare intended to find out why. Avangeline remained curious however, and Valve was happy to indulge the buckskin girl in a little carefully told history lesson.

“Yes, a long time ago, and though I have spent a lot of time travelling across other places, I consider them my home.” Valve paused briefly, contemplating the extent in which she wanted to elaborate. “At the time, my mother oversaw the Peak—she fought for independence from the tyrannical nature of some of herds. My father too ran a band of stallions that rejected the oppressive way of life that many of the others chose to follow.”

Her dark eyes darted back to Gabbar again and she flicked her tail, gauging his reaction as she divulged this information. “It was a vastly different time,” Valve finished. And tarih kendini tekrar eder… she thought silently, keeping her gaze locked on the bay stallion a moment longer before returning her attention to Avangeline.
