GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

The weariness washes over me all of a sudden. I find myself parting my jaws to reveal two rows of yellowed teeth as I yawn, my gut gurgling from the sudden rush of air, followed by a deep and low exhale. The sun is rising steadily now and the herd will be active soon. The daily responsibilities will call me away from getting to know Petal further, so I revel in the moments I still have now.

I consider her words for a long time but find no fault in them. I too had fled a home, the Lagoon, because I knew it wasn't where I belonged. But on first appearance, Petal does not seem like the time to quarrel with others. Clearly there is more to learn about this mare. So I merely bob my head, allowing the wildness of my unkempt mane to bounce lightly against my thick neck before falling back into place.

"I understand the feeling. You're young. I don't think you're supposed to know where you belong yet." I offer, still feeling uncomfortable with this whole "giving advice" thing. It's not like I'm some all knowing elder. I barely have more life experience than she does. But I want to offer up something comforting. If I've learned anything in this short lifetime, it's that there are no wrong turns.

"I know I didn't for a long time," I offer up, a sole front hoof retracting to itch my under belly, and then being stomped dutifully back onto the Prairie's soft earth. "I wandered for a long time. Then one day, I knew I wanted to come back. And I wanted to do this."

I say, allowing my gaze to lift from Petal and survey the Prairie once again.

I nicker eagerly upon feeling her self touch, taking a step closer to her to return the favor. I allow my muzzle to drape gently down the length of her short neck, breathing in her dizzying scent. I close my eyes in that moment, so content and so comfortable I could have fallen asleep right there. When she speaks again, she seemingly wakes me. I step back as I listen to her and offer up a coy smirk.

"I'm happy to be your tree." I reply, nickering again. "Though I'm probably more of a cypress or sequoia than a pine, I think."
