The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

There was a moment of brief tension as Orhan's face remained blank, the stallion staring me down with an inquisitive stare. It had been years since I was here last and I held no judgment for him not immediately remembering the occurrence. I was hardly memorable at the time -- just a lanky boy who was too afraid of his brother to follow him into the Dunes, so foolishly I attempted to forge my own way into dangerous territory. I had been lucky that Orhan had found me when he did. But I wasn't a boy anymore. And it was important to me that I make a much more memorable impression this time.

I relaxed some upon seeing a lightness in his facial features, a registering of my face and my purpose. I bobbed my head eagerly when he spoke fondly of his memory of me.

It didn't take long for our conversation to move on to the more dire matter at hand, and that is my sister. Firy red ear lobes flicked forward at attention as he confirmed that he knew her, and that she was in fact living here. How lucky was I? The search I assumed would take weeks or months ended here and now, with a friendly face and well-secured home for Nova. Not to mention she lived on the same island as her mother, which I hope she would take also as good news. A genuine smile spread quickly across my whiskered lips as Orhan reassured me that she was being well cared for here. I logged his son's name away. Koray. Perhaps a thank you was in order to him too, for bringing her here.

"That is a relief." I say, chewing aimlessly in an effort to keep some form of saliva moving in what was quickly becoming a very dry mouth. "Thank you for opening your home to her."

Orhan asks about the Prairie and I bob my head, a mess of unkempt, wavy strands of mane cascading down the crest of my thick neck. "Yes. It didn't take long for me to figure out I was meant for more than the Lagoon." I said. "So I decided to start my own family in the place where I was fortunate to grow up."

I weigh Orhan's offer and quickly decide I should stay. It seems strange to admit now, but Nova and I have never met. Valentine had shipped me away to the Lagoon while Evaline was still pregnant, and I had left the islands shortly after. Evaline told me how they came after me and I worry now that this won't end up being a cordial reception from Nova. Nevertheless, she needed to know that the Prairie was always open to her. And that her mother was not far away. "I would like to see her today. Her mother recently took up residence with your neighbor, Gabbar, and I'd like her to know that her family is never far away."
