And its consequences keep you up at night

There is no love, just appetite.
And its consequences keep you up at night.

Snow had yet to fall over the Lagoon. Even when it did, it was hardly the thickly coated landscape that was winter on Tinuvel. It was mesmerizing to some degree, completely unique in its blinding but somewhat fantasy-like qualities. Kasabian reveled in it for a moment, his slender and dark legs taking high trudging steps through the deep snow, its mass crunching and compacting under the weight of his dull hooves. He lowered his heavy head to the ground at one point, allowing the hot breathes from his nostrils to blow over the delicate blanket of snow. The usual curmudgeonly tawny stallion even cracked a smile as brittle flakes clung to the soft, dark skin around his muzzle and began to melt there.

But this innocent moment of exploration came and went too fast. It was the ashen frame of the lone mare that had pulled him away from his almost childlike distraction. Seeing her there alone made his heart thump faster in his chest. He smiled again as he surrounded her, this time the smirk was a bit more sinister than gleeful.

The fact that she was crying made it all the more worthwhile. The more she struggled against him the hotter he felt in his loins and under his skin. When she shouted at him to stop, Kasabian's golden lobes lay flat against his poll and he reached at her shoulder with parted lips, having every intention of biting her as hard as he could to punish her for speaking out against him.

Kasabian had been successful in driving her only a few feet toward the shoreline of the bay when two others emerged wildly from the thicket behind them. They moved quickly to surround him. Kasabian swiveled as best he could on his lame hip, struggling to turn on his haunches in the wet snow under his hooves. Kasabian decided to focus his attention on the stallion. He clearly was older and better built compared to the young and lanky mare. As the spotted stallion rounded near, Kasabian let out a strenuous buck, his thick hind legs splaying out blindly behind him while he silently waited to feel his hooves hit flesh on impact. The mare had successfully swooped in close enough to make a move while Kasabian's head was tucked between his knees in the middle of a kick, and he squealed wildly when he felt her teeth rip at his golden hide just above his shoulder. As he landed, he whipped his head toward her quickly, jaws parted and teeth barred as he hoped to grab a hold of the thin skin on her cheek or an ear before she pulled too far away. Then the stallion lashed out with his front legs for good measure, and in an attempt to create some distance between him and his two new foes.

Kasabian hadn't seen either horse before in his life. They were both merely strangers to him, two souls he didn't care to know anything else about. But he wasn't stupid. It was clear that one or both of them ruled this territory. It was clear that he was outnumbered. The grey mare he had been hunting managed to slip away from the scene successfully, so Kasabian knew he would leave empty handed. Nevertheless, the stallion relaxed just a little as he stood to catch his breathe, a pink tongue appearing as he licked eagerly at his whiskered lips. "Woo. Well that was fun." Kasabian said, nostrils still flaring in unison with the sides of his barrel as he tried to catch his breathe. He eyed the two other horses before cocking his head back to see the waterline behind him. When he looked back at the two horses in front of him he smiled again and began to paw furiously at the snow in front of him, inviting them to come at him for a second round.
