Brienne strolled alongside and slightly behind Paradiso, watching him from her peripheral vision all the while. She was hyper-aware of the warmth emanating from him, as well as his scent strong in her nostrils; it was not unpleasant, for he smelled strongly of fresh earth, but it was the closest she had ever been to this young stallion, and she had to fight hard to resist the urge to shy away. She listened dutifully to his chatter and silently wondered how he had ended up in the prairie at such a young age, or if he had been born here. He bore no obvious physical similarities to Shamwari, so she did not think he was the chestnut stallion's son, which made her all the more curious. Where she was from, it was highly unusual for there to be multiple stallions in a herd, unless it was a bachelor clan.

Regardless of how Paradiso had ended up here under Shamwari's watchful eye, however, his presence - as well as the presence of the big pale stallion - spoke clearly of Shamwari's character. It spoke of a stallion that was tolerant and kind, and confirmed what impressions she already carried of him. It made her heart feel warm.

All at once, the pintaloosa surged forward away from her, and Brienne raised her head in surprise, her train of thought abruptly broken. She watched as Paradiso cantered recklessly down the slope before them, amazed by his tenacity, and when he turned to expectantly wait for her at the bottom, she flicked one ear back in uncertainty. Brienne hesitated, eyeing the slope for several long moments with her head low, and gradually tip-toed to its edge. As carefully and slowly as she could manage, she lumbered awkwardly down the hill, picking up speed as the ground flattened under her feet until she was trotting briskly to Paradiso's side. Adrenaline sang in her blood from her small act of courage, and she let out a deep, heavy snort of relief, looking at the young stallion with a bright smile. Her blue eyes were wide with exhilaration.

She glanced back at the hill behind them, almost wanting to do it again, but looked back to Paradiso instead, watching him pointedly. What now? her expression seemed to say.
