Chucklefuck that he was, he watched the mare slink from the shadows like a spooky snake and couldn’t help the amused giggle that bubbled in his throat. She moved like a dominant mare (something he would have appreciated any other day) but she did not look like Jormungandr and he immediately realized that he would not be welcomed back with open arms. Chances were that even if Jormungandr still kept to the forest halls, he still wouldn’t be.

But he found her comical nonetheless and just to rub it in her face, he picked a particularly spiney pine tree and proceeded to rub himself hard enough on it that the lower limbs shuddered.

“Is it not courtesy to announce your arrival in a territory which you do not rule?”

Nope; at least, not where he was from. Where he was from, there were wandering herds and they often passed by each other with nary a scuffle unless resources were short. As she continued to speak, Asp eyeballed her incredulously. At the threat, his eyebrows (if he had them) would have shot so high up that they probably would have made a home with Jesus.

He laughed again and shook his mane out before answering her with a loud, unimpressed snort followed by,

“Damn, that was a serious speech,’ he said, deciding to walk toward her and close the gap between them.

“You can suggest all you want, lady, but I ain’t goin’ nowhere. Say hello to your new lead stallion.”

He might’ve struck a gallant pose if he wasn’t so concerned with establishing his dominance. In the time it took to say “You” and “Stallion”, Asp had made a decision that she wouldn’t like: he was here to stay, and she’d better fall into line or he’d make her. Therefore, he puffed up his neck and chest, blowing a hot breath of air at her, suggesting with his body language that she’d best move deeper into the forest, right quick.
