it is not to the action that it is due

m e n k h e t

the adrenaline that surged through her blood felt like heaven. every pore, hair, muscle, molecule of her body was throbbing with power, raw and wild. the uncertainty of her actions at first were merely that, uncertainty. what to do, how to do it, but fear had never been present and likely never would be. she had been snapped and broken too many times for that. he had underestimated her from the first, assumed she could be driven away like a pest, assumed that she was weak and submissive….he was wrong.

she watches the amusement and satisfaction slide off his face like ice cream flopping off its cone on a hot day. she is smaller by just an inch but finer boned and lightening fast. she strikes as such, a whirl of flashing teeth and hooves darting in and out of danger. she feels, occasionally, the scrape of his teeth across her flesh and it only invigorates her more. he fails at driving her away. with each successful snap and kick aimed at him she gains ground, managing to force him toward the boundary of the forest. despite the several small flesh wounds she has acquired she has never felt better, more alive.

she is the opposite of a child fighting blindly, wildly against it’s bounds. her fury is much more controlled, directed, than that of a youngster throwing a fit. there is passion, to be sure, but it is only necessity that drives her, the need to protect her home, her territory, her sanctuary. her victory comes finally, having driven the petulant intruder to the edge of her forest. the fight is clearly over for now, though she doubts it will stay that way long. her voice rings out, steely and cold, as she stands, glorious in the face of her hard earned victory.

maybe you should have listened a little better you insolent waste of space. this forest is mine and i intend to keep it that way. the next time you step foot in it unwelcome and unwon, you will be claimed as part of this herd, property of me.

it would not be the first time she had claimed a stallion as part of her herd and she doubted it would be the last. with this, she banished him, knowing that if he stepped foot in her home again, she would do what she could to keep him from being a further nuisance.
