This is no ordinary love

Vita Nova was too naive to realize this stranger was sizing her up. Even though the young mare had lived on her own on the crossing isle for a span of several months, she'd never really developed a strong independent instinct. Instead, the mare was naturally, and perhaps foolishly, drawn to other horses, no matter their size, gender or demeanor. She was definitely the type that was meant to be part of a robust herd. She so feared being alone for too long. So Nova just assumed this buckskin mare was not naturally as friendly as she was. Which was fine. Nova wasn't here necessarily to make a lot of friends (though she would never turn the opportunity of friendship down, if it did arise). She just wanted to see her mother.

The ashen-colored mare smiled weakly when Nyazik introduced her, the mare's steel-colored lobes flicking forward and back and her smile widening as she took in her foreign pleasantries. The mare even cocked her head to one side as she listened to her, surprised by it. "Oh." Was all Nova managed to squeak out in response to her, though she couldn't hide the deflated expression that overtook her facial features.

Nova was distracted by another, who appeared through the darkness of the lingering storm. She could smell the sea on her and even some hints of the Prairie, which piqued her interest. Nevertheless, Nova remained quiet as this new buckskin mare talked. She smiled curiously to her when she introduced herself. Nova wasn't the bravest or the smartest mare in the world, but something about the way this interaction was going made her feel like there was something much bigger going on that she didn't know about it. Why else would this territory be seemingly vacant in the middle of the night? And why wouldn't these mares just straight out tell her where her mother is? Nova allowed her crystal blue gaze to shift nervously from one buckskin mare to the other. But when Avangeline spoke again, Nova perked up at the sound her mother's name.

"Evaline is my mother." She said bluntly, hoping to get to the bottom of whatever was going on, and quickly. "My brother, Shamwari of the Prairie, told me she was expecting me." The second part of this of course was a fib, but Nova watched the other two eagerly to see how they would gauge what she said. "It seems strange that she would leave Salem when she knows I was coming to see her." The mare let her voice trail off and waited for one of them to come up with a pretty darn good answer for what was going on.
