the coffin is moving
If the Bay had been the Forest, Asp would never have relented. The pair of horses would have been met with all the protectiveness the stallion could muster to keep his leaves and trees safe. But this was not the Forest. This was a frozen wasteland and Asp had lived a season or two nearby, and he had learned that Tinuvel could not be his home.

He had expected the confusion, and met her wariness with a soft snort and a roll of his shoulders, relaxing his posture to show that for once, he was honest.

“What kind of help?”

He could appreciate getting to the point. After all, he had no interest in standing around in the cold, and as if the land itself was rebuking him, a harsh wind ripped through where they stood.

“I-i lived on Luthien, once,’ he began, his neck twisting in the direction of the far-away island.

“T-t-the Forest is the o-only home I’ve ever l-loved,’ he admitted, but there was no shame in his statement, guessing that the mare and the stallion could understand. Why else would they come so quickly after he had begun to lay claim to the Bay?

“Not l-long ago, I returned. When I a-attempted to take m-my home back, I was met w-with a force I d-did not expect.”

There was a bitterness to his words, and the frustration that thrived in his gut from his defeat spurred him on, heating his blood.

“I intend to t-try again,’ he went on, determination entering his dark brown eyes.

“If y-you would offer whatever aid y-you could, I will r-return the Bay to you, no worse f-for wear. And, if we are s-successful, you m-may call u-upon me for aid in whatever y-you need me for.”

Two for the price of one. Asp must be really freezing.
