 Tell me, tell me I survived. I listen eagerly as Menkhet confirms Asp had, indeed, been here already. My mind is awhirl with what could have transpired between them. Knowing the little I do about Menkhet, I knew this mare wouldn't back down from a fight. She wore the aftermath of it proudly on her body now. I also wonder if she tried to force claim the stallion as she had with Nuru. The briefest of smirks cracks my lips as I think about that, and the look on Asp's face when he realized that power no longer belonged to stallions on these isles anymore. Menkhet is brief and to the point, and I appreciate her candor. I bob my heavy cranium when she accepts my offer to take in my half-brother, Paradiso. While a pang of worry hangs in my gut about this decision, I know I will rest a little easier knowing Menkhet's watchful eye will be over him. The colt has much to learn about the world still. "Then it is settled. I will have him report here immediately." I say, bobbing my head again in an effort to rid a few pesky strands of my forelock from my sight. I stomp a hoof into the ground too, for good measure. When Menkhet speaks again I struggle for a moment to respond. Her appreciation means a great deal to me. I am not in the business of making enemies, but I will protect my home and my friends who need it. In the case of Menkhet and the Forest, our partnership is meant to protect our home. Luthien belongs to us and it is up to us to defend it. A gentle snort leaves my nostrils. "I'm sure you will one day repay the favor." I say, allowing my gaze to drift off into the trees around us. "For Luthien." I say and turn to head back down the trail in which I came. |
