Many wolves looking for relaxation come to Blossom Field. A gentle breeze vibrating the blossoming flowers is quite a sight to see and it is quite a favourite for wolves to come with their mates.

A recent fire has ruined the scenery, half the field covered with soot and marked with scars of the flames. The other half is untouched, however.

But it’s always there;;

The female didn’t think it was possible, but life had turned even more upside down than it had been before. The kalak always thought that her and her father would be close, that nothing could change their relationship. But that had all been torn apart when he betrayed her. Akuji had taught her everything she knew. From how to fight and defend herself, to how to behave in this world that was crueler than it appeared. Shasta had grown to rely on him and she thought that he was all she needed. There was little in their lives that was separate. Her mother had left them alone, and she was the only pup that had stuck around with him. The father and daughter had a special bond, one that had been Shasta’s whole world. Until he destroyed it. Her father thought that he could just pawn her off to some other male and that Shasta would have happily taken him as her mate. But she was not going to let him control her life or tell her what to do. She had refused to listen to what he wanted, and the two had not spoken since.

But it had turned out to be a good thing that Akuji tried to set up this match. Horizon was exactly what Shasta needed, even though she had not realized it at the time. Luckily enough for her, Horizon had followed her and the two had hit it off better than she thought they would. Shasta had come to learn that the male had nothing to do with her father’s plan, and he felt bad for what had happened. He just wanted to get to know her and form a friendship. More than a friendship had come between the two kalaks. Shasta felt things for the male that she had never experienced before, and she didn’t realize it but she was very quickly falling for him. Horizon was a comfort that she needed when Akuji was gone, and she had grown to love spending time with him. She couldn’t imagine her life without him now.

Shasta didn’t realize how soon the two’s bond would come into play. Farant had come to Blossom, wanting to take Shae and her pups away. She did not know everything about her family, and what it was that Akuji had run away from. What she saw at the battle was shocking though. Her father had turned sides, attacking wolves of Cold Summers instead of protecting them. Shasta’s skills were put to the test, and she realized how different sparring was from actual battle. She had made rookie mistakes and found herself in a dangerous position, almost getting killed by an enemy kalak. Her front limb was broken, yet she fought on and with the unexpected help of Horizon she ended up making her first kill. Killing a prey animal was different than killing a wolf, and even though she knew she had to do it, or else find herself being killed, it still affected her. Her father had talked to her about death, and that it was a necessary part of life, but he never told her how hard it would be to actually commit the act.

In the end, the only thing that had mattered was her and Horizon. The female went to the male’s side, a whine in her throat as she did so. But he was focused on Farant, and there was a scary look in his eyes. He didn’t speak a word to her, even when she asked him why he had come here. Shasta saw tears fall from his eyes as he put his neck around her, pulling her close to him. She leaned into him, both for comfort and to help her stand on three limbs. Cold Summers had won the battle, Farant and his minions were all dead and dying at the borders. There was nothing more to do. Her chocolate brown orbs looked to her father, and saw him talking to Katia. It was obvious that both Shasta and Akuji had new priorities in their lives. Horizon was still silent, and she pulled her head out from his embrace. ”Can we go, please?” She looked pleadingly at the male, not wanting to be at the place of such bloodshed and destruction anymore, but not wanting to be away from him either. The two were injured, but not to the point where they were in a life threatening position.

The femme limped heavily as she turned to the trees, not looking back at her father or any of the other wolves she used to call her packmates. She worried for her aunt Shae and her pups, but with a broken limb she was useless and would not be able to help. She hoped that Horizon would come with her, afraid of what would happen without him. She didn’t pay any attention as to where she was going, just limping along until she couldn’t go on anymore. Finally she paused, blinking around to see where she had taken them to. They were in a field now, the ground damp from the melting snow. Shasta sat down, panting slightly from the exertion of walking with an injured limb. She looked down to see the extent of her injury. Blood had stopped flowing from the wound, but it still hurt more than anything she had felt before. And with the adrenaline fading, the pain increased. Concerned orbs turned to the male, hoping he had made it with her. ”Are you okay? She limped over to him, brushing against him, noticing that he had deep wounds on his chest. She began to clean off his fur, hoping he would be okay with the affectionate gesture, making sure to keep her injured limb off the ground as she did so.
