rend the flesh from bone

This child eyes the chestnut mare with hesitation as she extends a greeting to her, flicking her eyes up towards her mother Lillith gives a small nod and Lluvia steps forward slightly, raising her head, “you too.” Her small voice quite firm but she gives a crooked smile. It’s true Macabre didn’t say her name but this is the first creature aside from her mother that she is meeting. Making anyone’s acquaintance was good. Without hesitation she pipes up, “are you part of my family?” Not even looking at Lillith’s slightly widened eyes at these words she continues to watch the mare before her, and though Lil’s reaction isn’t anger it is surprise. In the first few days of her life Lluvia had been told a few things of her grandmother, grandfather, aunts and uncles. Hearing and seeing were going to be two very different things.

With the mention of Lluvia’s sire’s name Lillith’s ears flick backwards with distaste before she can even catch herself. “I’m sure he would be if he hadn’t wandered off.” There is a bitterness and biting in those words of hers. An obvious displeasure with his disappearance is clear, spiriting away with little notice and taking his elder daughter with him without a single word to his herd. Closing her eyes and with a collective sigh Lillith rotates her ears forward and looks at Macabre with a small smile, clearly working on overcoming this disappointment. She had been interested in Vodnik as she hadn’t been interested in another male in quite sometime. It had been strange but good to have respect for a man, to be intrigued in someone other than herself or family.

She just gives a small nod at her words of the peace and quiet that have come over the land of the ridge. Any other time Lillith wouldn’t mind some excitement in her life but with a newborn filly she would not wish to stress herself nor her daughter with unnecessary drama. A fool she was not. A croaking toad caught Lluvia’s attention and with a high legged trot she wandered to investigate this new sound. Lillith wouldn’t stop her, there was much more to speak of that she would rather her daughter not hear just yet. “So, do you know why?” Why they were left upon the ridge, their bodies tiny silhouettes among the foliage, and alone. “Are we the only ones left? Have you any ideas, Macabre?”

Clearly Vodnik had trusted this mare, she was the only one Lillith knew herself, and if there was anyone to confide into at this point it would be her.
