My brother and I experienced the same mountain lion outrageously load growl/screech you described above Colorado Springs,CO in the summer of 76. Like yourself I still think about it. Especially considering the following day a 14 year old boy, hiking by himself, was attacked by the same lion. Luckily, he was able to stab the lion and was able to get away. The lion was later found dead from the stability wounds.
