OUR GUEST SPEAKER
DR. DOUG TOZER
HIS TOPIC: LESSONS FROM LOONS
WHAT OUR WILDERNESS SYMBOL IS TELLING US
Dr. Doug Tozer is Ontario Program Scientist at Bird Studies Canada in Port Rowan where he oversees the Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring Program and the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey. He looks at population trends and habitat use of secretive marsh birds, loons and frogs. He will overview revolutionary discoveries of how loons survive and reproduce, and whether human activities are negatively influencing the loons' unique way of life and the lakes they depend on, now and in the future. Doug has been a leader in the campaign to make the Common Loon our National Bird in Canadian Geographic Magazine’s National Bird Project. The results of this competition will be announced in the December issue of the magazine. And yes – Doug is the son of our October speaker, Ron Tozer. Nature runs in the family.
As usual we will be fundraising by selling our 50/50 tickets and our MPFN Magic Bean Soup.
