I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline allowed her gaze to hover over the surface of the water. There her large brown eyes focused on the gentle ripples, the current sending small waves away from her body, where she jutted through the otherwise silky smooth surface of liquid. Valve's direct questions stung. There was no other way to describe it. The others seemed to tip toe around the issue and do their best to be accommodating. But Valve, while generous with her time and her ability to aid the palomino mare physically, had questions and clearly wanted answers. With a low huff, the mare looked up toward the sleek black mare again. She stared at her for some time, admiring her thin, but muscular build, her stoic stance, her unwavering confidence in herself and the version of the horse she knew herself to be. It was as if the mare operated without doubt. Everything she did was calculated without emotion. Perhaps life was simpler that way. Maybe if Evaline had made choices in such a way, her life wouldn't be as muddled as it is now.
Slowly, Evaline began to make her way back toward the shore. Her weak legs cute through the liquid in slow motion. She took extra time to plant each hoof firmly on the murky submerged ground before taking another shaky step. Her steps grew more uneasy as her frame began to rise from the depths. But she surged on, pinning her ears when Valved looked her way to show her she didn't want any help this time. She walked until she reached Valve's side and stood there for some time, her nostrils flaring already from the heat.
"More?" She questioned Valve quietly, her ear lobes, including the half-crumpled one, perk forward at attention. The golden mare swung her head to the side then, watching the foals as they played. The filly stopped to watch her mother for some time and the child's stare lingered on the black frame of the other mare. But her wits were quickly returned to her brother, as he bounded and leaped around her.
