JODE ROBERTS
SENIOR STRATEGIST at the DAVID SUZUKI FOUNDATION
HIS TOPIC: BRINGING NATURE HOME TO THE CITY
Jode Roberts is an award-winning communications strategist, community builder and artist. For the past decade, he's led media, social media and marketing efforts for some of Canada's foremost environmental organizations and campaigns. He currently works for the David Suzuki Foundation, developing innovative programs such as the Homegrown National Park Project and the Got Milkweed campaign. His work connects urban dwellers with nature in their neighbourhoods and helps to mobilize local champions for greener, healthier communities. Jode is also an urban beekeeper and visual artist, specializing in abstract painting, and has initiated several popular community projects, from musical bike parades and pop-up comedy shows to a scale solar system art project in Toronto parks. Jode received a 2016 Vital People Award from the Toronto Foundation for leadership and innovation.
Jode is also a Midland boy who has made good in the big city. He writes about his time here: "I was born and raised in Midland and returned following my undergrad degree. While I was there I got to work on a bunch of shoreline rehabilitation and naturalization projects, mostly in Penetang, where I worked for the municipality for a couple years. I also created a community garden site that is there today still. I've been working in the environmental advocacy scene for about 15 years now and often do presentations about the campaigns and projects I've been working on, from bees and butterflies to tactical urbanism and placemaking."
This meeting is free to MPFN members.
Non-members and guests are asked to consider making a $5 donation to help us cover costs.
NOTE: Although construction is still ongoing at the Marsh we should be indoors for this meeting. Possibly in the exhibit hall. You'll find us.
As usual we will be fundraising by selling our 50/50 tickets and our MPFN Magic Bean Soup.

You can also bring along any used nature books you'd like to donate to our Great Nature Book Sale. Books donated will be resold for what the buyer thinks they're worth.
