I had intended to post last night but was too busy preparing class notes and picking up copies at the printer.
The Snowy Egret which had been observed in the morning yesterday had left the area by 5:00 p.m when we arrived.
The perennial patch of lungwort has been in that location for several years now and there is no doubt that it is a garden escape. It is a Pulmonaria species but when I checked my several books on garden plants, I believe it is the common cultivar that we see in gardens, Pulmonaria saccharata commonly called Bethlehem Sage. Pulmonaria longifolia blooms later in spring or early summer and have deep blue flowers. The flowers are larger in a terminal cluster and shades of light blue, pink and even sometimes white in P. saccharata. Check to see if the stems have hairs. Leaves are also wider in Bethlehem Sage compared to the narrow leaves of Pulmonaria longifolia. Replies:
