Diamant

Diamant's heart was racing. He felt as if he was standing on a precipice, looking back at his mare with eyes that matched his own, and that at any moment he would slip and hurtle down into the depths of a world he didn't know. Part of him didn't want to believe that it could have been this easy, that the first horse he'd run into in the place of his ancestors was part of the very family he sought to reconnect with. But here he was, and here she was, and he was about to find out whether his suspicions were true or not.

He could see in her expression too that she might have been thinking the same.

"I was raised in the Peak. My mother... rather, the mare who raised me as her son, told me that my parents had lived on this island once. I didn't think they were still around, but... part of me hoped." His eyes, which had wandered to the surrounding trees as he reminisced, suddenly snapped back to Merete. "I don't know what my parents' names were, but the mare who raised me was called Inka. I don't suppose you've heard of her, though. She rarely left the Peak."
