My bird of summer is the tree swallow as I seem to inhabit places that they prefer. Like you, I have noticed in recent years that they seem to be at least holding their own if not increasing. When we lived in Hamilton my bird of summer was the chimney swift; I loved listening to them chitter as they went about catching insects. Try running full tilt and carrying on a conversation!
No, I haven't seen a nighthawk in our area (Lake St. George) in about a decade when we had a small flock flitting about in our back yard. I miss the bats too.
I definitely have a bird of spring, the chipping sparrow. The spring birds appear at our feeders in sequence, redpolls, juncos, white throated and crowned sparrows, tree sparrows, song sparrows and other striped brands, finally, when the risk of accumulating snow is small, the chipping sparrows.
