In truth, Valve wondered what happened to Gabbar as well, since he did not return after their bout in the Lagoon. Perhaps he was too ashamed of his failure to protect Evaline and felt it best that he leave the management of the dunes to Valve. If this was true, she could understand and respect his decision. Still, a part of her hoped she may one day see the Arabian again. He was useful to her, mostly.

As Orhan affirmed his own distaste for the Lagoon stallions, she nodded back, glad that her describing this incident to him was relatable enough for him to be in agreement as to her terms. Keeping her focus trained on the stallion, she smiled politely when he went on to share information about the whereabouts of Evaline’s daughter, Vita Nova.

“I don’t mind at all,” Valve responded. “But I’ll be sure to let Evaline know as well.”

Valve stored this bit of information, remembering to question the golden mare about it later. Perhaps Evaline already knew Vita Nova was close by and she didn’t exactly want to see her. Either way, she would find out if her daughter should be treated like a welcome guest or an intruder, like Kasabian. In Valve’s mind, familial blood wasn’t always a free pass.

“I am glad to hear that Orhan,” she finished. “Let’s speak again when the season turns. I will make the trip to the desert next time.”
