Your First Time at Oswego Speedway

Tell us about the first time you attended Oswego Speedway. When was it and what are your memories of it?

Although my first supermodified race was in 1967 at Flamboro Speedway, I did not attend a race at Oswego Speedway until 1993 June. My brother and I had dreamed of attending for many years and finally made it happen when we brought our kids to see the greatest 4-wheeled racing show on earth. The first memory is of the NOISE! We sat on in the Family Section in the front grandstand and the first time the supers took the green it sent us scampering to the concession area to buy some earplugs. My 5-year old son nearly jumped out of his skin. That night was a twin-feature. There were familiar names like Warren, Muldoon and Letcher -- all supermodified names I was familiar with from attending supermodified events at Flamboro and Delaware Speedways in the 60s and 70s. There was also a young gun that I'd never heard of before called Russ Wood, driving the Shea 27. Bentley Warren (purple Dunigan 29) and Russ Wood finished 1-2 and 2-1 in the two features. Those two continued to be my favourite supermodified drivers for at least 20 years after that. I have continued to come to Oswego for the the last 25 years, making the 5 hour drive from Deep River, Ontario whenever I can. Favourite events are ones where both winged and non-winged supermodifieds race as two classes.
