We are travelling in the east, and heard the same thing in Nova Scotia today: specifically referring to finches, and recommending complete removal of ALL feeders and bird baths for the next few weeks. We also wondered if it might be a worry in Ontario, but decided that when we get back (in a few weeks) we will sterilize all feeders and bird baths before using again--on a regular basis as a precaution.
