Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

gentlemen - a vote

ARGENTO

Dear fellow bachelors,

I can't tell you how happy it's made me to see the Lagoon filling up with new faces. I've spent far too long alone here and, to be honest, it was getting a bit boring. I trust all of you will help liven things up again.

I feel as though leadership of this place has naturally fallen to me, seeing as I've been here the longest, but I feel to carry on in this manner without a discussion would be doing all of us, including myself, a disservice. I'm a bit on the young side, as you can probably tell, and I have neither the experience nor the desire to lead in the traditional sense. Therefore I propose we hold an election for a new boss. Those of you who are interested in the title, please put your names forward.

And because we are all still getting to know one another, I propose taking it a step further and promoting ourselves. In other words, let's take turns explaining why we should be Boss of the Lagoon and what our leadership style and goals are like. Then we can cast our votes.

I'll go first:

I don't want to be Boss – at least, not a traditional one. I couldn't be even if I tried. I have no experience, I've never been in a fight, and I've never stolen from anyone. What I do have - which I believe most of you lack - is knowledge of the isles, considering I am an island native. And because I was born right next door in the Peak and have family ties there, I could guarantee staying in the Vulcans' good graces.

I think the Lagoon's reputation needs cleaned up. The isles see us as pesky swamp goblins, scum, troublemakers, criminals – you name it. From what I have heard of our history and our past actions, those stereotypes are well-deserved. If you dabble in moral bankruptcy, you reap what you sow. I think it is time to change our ways. I hear mares are leading herds now – and more power to them – but with their rise comes the fall of men. We need a safe haven, a place for stallions to be stallions, just as the Peak is for mares.

Under my rule, the Lagoon would be a place of shelter, of relaxation and brotherhood. Perhaps we might still occasionally harry the herds for amusement, but we would cause no real harm. We would become true bachelors - desirable bachelors - perhaps even a place the herds sent their sons and daughters, to learn to fight or find an eligible match... We would be respected finally.

As I said before, I have no taste for authority. But I could be the glue that holds us together if you would allow it. I could help guide us toward this new path of peace and prosperity.

Or not. Our fate is in your hands, gentlemen. I am equally happy being of service to the Lagoon as a thief, or perhaps even the Marauder some day. I simply thought it would be unseemly of me to ignore this opportunity while it lasted.

I look forward to your responses.

Sincerely,
Gent
