Constantly. She and Los had looked constantly for their missing child. All that had kept her from staying in the freelands to search day and night were the cries of the night beasts that haunted the dark. She could only travel so far in the daylight before she needed to return to the forests of
Taviora. Even Masque had attempted to help find her sister, to little avail due to her age and lack of tracking skills. Soma’s trails had been covered by time and other scents, lost to the world and the wolves that also roamed the freelands. Any scent they picked up was gone the following day when the girl and the male she was with moved, or when Soma was able to break away on her own. Taika never gave up hope for her daughter and at last, she found a scent fresher and stronger than the others.
For a while now, she had been staying in the freelands longer and wandering further. With the support of Eldritch watching over Masque, or with Masque having completely disappeared for a week Eldritch watching her, Taika had broadened her search to the further reaches of the free lands. It was in the Crags she ran across the scent of her child. The mother’s heart pounded with desperate hope and her paws ached, longing to know if it was really her. Itching, chocolate paws raced while her dark nose stuck to the ground, determined not to lose the scent. It could have been delirious excitement, or it could have been the facts telling her she was right, but the gypsy was sure this would be it. Each step brought the scent stronger until at last she looked up and her eyes met the golden pelt of her daughter. Taika nearly fell over and began to weep with joy. Instead, she called out to her pup and raced up to her, body wiggling wildly around in her happiness at seeing Soma alive.
