It was nice to see Mariael smile, and the expression combined with her words coaxed a small chuckle from Persephone’s throat as well as her own. A woman who could admit her own faults, and laugh about them too, was a smart woman indeed. She could admire that.

At her comment about Asp, Persephone sobered some – but only slightly. She was touched by the offer, from a woman she hardly knew at all and yet already felt as if she could become good friends with.

“Sometimes being prideful is no bad thing, in the right measure,” she replied with a smile. “Your offer is an honourable one, and greatly appreciated. Know that I would do the same for you, in return, should the situation ever arise.”

It seemed as though the two mares’ respect for each other was growing at the same rate, judging by Mariael’s answer to her offer. It seemed to speak to the similarities between them. Persephone could see that they were quite alike, and in that she knew they could work together.

Satisfaction warmed her expression and her voice as she spoke. “Thank you, Mariael. I will be proud to call you my ally, and you may rest assured that any information I discover is yours to share, and my assistance is always available to you. I know that the Bay will continue to prosper under yours also.”

Persephone returned her smile, and gave Mariael a respectful bob of her head.

“I think we will get along nicely.”
