Re(1): PhD needed to get consultant job?

The short answer is NO!

Getting a consultant position can be achieved even without a formal fellowship, let alone PhD.

Having said that, depending on the subspecialty, practice setting (secondary, tertiary center), prestige of the department, etc.... higher degrees may increase your competitiveness for getting the job.

In summary it depends on "what job" and "where".
