Running wild with you right next to me

young & wild & no apologizes
Jusket's ears perked in surprise to see the pale mare react so positively to his pink companion's question. He assumed, incorrectly, that a horse who called herself queen would not tolerate criticism (even unintentional) from a stranger. He was learning something new everyday. He'd have to start looking at the horses under the title, and not assume the traits from his own experience would be shared. He gave a slight shake of his mane to refocus on the conversation and smiled loosely as he saw Jola grin widely. "Good queens are good fighters. I never stand behind one unless I know she can hold her ground."

The pink mare was impressed, to say the least. She hadn't met many mares like herself. In the mountains she had Jusket had lived in, most of the mares had submitted to a life of being herded around by a stallion. It was good to see that these islands ran things a little differently. She never liked the way things were done on those mountain ranges. She loved them, and there were days where she wished she could go back, but it was too traditional for her tastes. She glanced sidelong at Jusket for a moment, hoping he'd never learn of her opinions of his beloved home.

"I assure you, we aren't here to cause any trouble. We'll be on our way shortly. After some time exploring, of course." Jusket's tail flicked gently, wondering how much colder Tinuvel would be compared to his own home. He didn't want to camp out the winter with a herd, but every time he glanced at Jola it seemed like she was turning something over in her mind. He had to admit he was curious to see these caverns in the mountains Mariael spoke of, but not enough to hole up in one with a herd he didn't even know. "We thank you, but I don't think we are ready to settle for the winter. There's still so much of these islands to explore, and–"

"You always said night was your favorite." Jola interrupted Jusket easily, an impish twitch on the edge of her grin. "These islands aren't going anywhere, my friend, and we won't learn anything about them if we only spend a day exploring each one. I doubt we'll get a more generous offer than this." She stared at him, knowing it would make him squirm until he agreed. He hated arguing in front of others. Finally the blue stallion gave a small nod of his head, and the pink mare turned back to Mariael triumphantly. "We would love to join your guard for the winter, if you'll have us. A queen should not have to fight all of her battles."

Jusket stayed mute but kept a smile to his face. He figured he owed this to Jola, after convincing her to leave their mountains. How long could winter be, anyways?
