Valve bobbed her head in agreement. The land was a treasure, and that is why it was of utmost importance to her to protect it and those who dwelled within it. She is glad to hear Ak Burun acknowledge this—surely it proved that her values were similar enough to Valve’s that they would get along just fine. In fact, the dark mare had never met another purebred Akhal-Teke who didn’t appreciate the hot sands and relentless climate Salem offered.

“Of course,” Valve responded lightly as Ak Burun explained the origins of her name. It was apt—completely fitting of her to be named after such an usual marking. The gods did not often dip the noses of their kind in white they way they did with hers—a leg sure, or a stripe or star drawn on the forehead, but never an entire nose of white. Valve wonders if it is an omen.

“Perhaps I should have been named Işaretsiz,” Valve continued lightheartedly. “But I do like the way Valve sounds on the tongue,” she admitted. Sharp, like a blade. It suited her, despite her ignorance to it’s meaning. It was better that way. She had created her own meaning for it.

She watched the other mare carefully, admiring the energy that flowed from every angle of her body. Ak Burun was much more than a white nose, and her interest in stallions in particular was an indication to Valve that she would perhaps be useful in certain ways.

“Two others, no stallions,” Valve responded simply. She briefly thought of Maslakhat and where he had been for all this time—if he did decide to return, he and Ak Burun would make a good match, she decided for him. How ironic if she managed to bring him back to her as a prize. She smirked at the thought.

“Why don’t you go and find one for us?”
