GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

The wind that whips at us from the sea is relentless. It's howling in our ears and beating against our bodies. It sends swirls of sand to attack us, the pebble-like grains stabbing at our legs and our chests. I can feel Caesisus shiver underneath my hold, so I inch as close to her as I can, and embrace her more tightly over her back. When she speaks, I lift my head only briefly, admiring her delicate features under what's left of the moonlight. She looks so weak and so tired. I am worried, hoping that whatever fitful attempt at rest tonight will aid her come morning.

I press my nose close to her face after she speaks, hoping my warm exhales will help remove some of the sand that clings to the lashes at her wide eyes. "Yes, we're home." I say softly, nickering to her reassuringly. "Rest now. It was a long swim." I suggest, allowing my head to drape again over the slope of her back.

Soon the stars begin to fade from the angry night's sky. The dark clouds move quick across them. By the time the sun begins to rise, illuminating the sea in bright yellows and oranges over the horizon, the sky is clear. Whatever storm had followed us from the Crossing Isle had dissipated, except for a gentle brisk breeze that lingered in the morning hours.

I remain amongst the sand with Caesisus for several more hours. From my position tucked behind her, I am uncertain if she was able to capture any rest at all. But eventually I stir, feeling the need to check on the rest of my family. I move as quietly as possible, rolling out of the way through the sand before standing on all fours. I look out across the rolling hills in the distance, but still, I hesitate to leave her side. I decide to compromise, and graze haphazardly on the tall, salty reeds on the dunes, with Caesisus never completely out of my view.
