PERSEPHONE

Persephone was somewhat concerned to see that the golden mare did not rise as she approached, worried that she might be more injured than she appeared, but when she spoke she seemed cheerful and well enough. She blamed it on getting old.

Persephone smiled, at least relieved to see that the mare was willing to make light of the situation. She could appreciate a positive attitude. Before she could say anything else, however, the cracking of twigs and the rustling of leaves announced another arrival.

There was no need for Persephone to even turn her head, as she recognised the bouncing gait of the youngster who had taken to trailing her around the Forest regularly. Besides, only a second later her bright voice came booming out as she bounded up to them.

She returned the young girl’s smile, chuckling slightly as she turned to her in excitement. Some might have tired of being called Goddess Persephone, but she merely found it entertaining. The words turned her chuckle into a laugh, and she bobbed her head at the girl.

“I did not know that, thank you, Talya,” she replied playfully, before she turned her attention back to Evaline.

“I am Persephone,” she greeted her, properly now that she saw that the mare seemed alright. “And this is Talya.”
