light me up like a bottle rocket

The first time she had noticed her warm breath leaving visible trails as it left her nostrils, Aurora had gotten a kick out of it. Growing up on Salem and Cimarron, there had been some chilly mornings during winter, but it had never gotten cold enough to see her breath and the chill had never lasted more than a couple of hours.

She has gotten used to the phenomenon now, and her next goal is to see her very first snowfall. She makes a mental note to ask Talya if this would be her first time as well. Aurora imagines that watching the white flakes fall will be nothing short of a magical experience, assuming it happens at a time that she’ll be able to watch it.

She snaps out of her musings as the pair extend their noses to her at the same time. She reaches out her own dark muzzle in return, though she’s careful to stop short of touching them. Her depth perception isn’t great no matter what time of day it is so she’s always very mindful of where her body is in relation to everyone else, not wanting a negative reaction from her proximity.

These two are a little disconcerting, moving and speaking as though they’re two halves of a whole rather than separate entities. She’s beginning to feel a little overwhelmed, a different kind of overwhelmed than that which Talya induces with her enthusiastic ways. Luckily for Aurora, a familiar face approaches to help relieve her of her anxieties, which she hopes will go away with more socialization.

”Good morning, Persephone,” she welcomes with a smile, still a little awed at the leader’s majestic bearing. She isn’t quite as far gone in her worship as Talya, who treats Persephone as nothing less than a goddess, but she does always feel a little cowed in the mare’s presence, despite the fact that she’s actually taller than Persephone.

The sister of the new pair rolls right on with the conversation, smoothly integrating Persephone’s arrival and question as she introduces herself and her brother. Aurora uses the following moment of silence to give Persephone her own answer. ”Newcomers, apparently,” she tells her varnish counterpart, summarizing the part of the conversation that Persephone had missed.

When Trell reveals why they’ve come to the Forest, Aurora thinks how lucky he and Kikka are that Persephone has turned up to greet them. While Aurora would have been glad to show them around and get to know them, she wouldn’t have been able to give them a definitive answer on whether they’d be able to stay for any amount of time.

”That’s a nice thing to do,” she says, trying not to sound as though she’s making a decision that only Persephone can make, especially when Persephone is standing right next to her. ”My friends and I only recently moved in ourselves, so I have no idea how cold it’ll actually get.”

Her clouded eyes flicker between Kikka and Trell, trying to get a sense of them. ”What made you decide on the Forest to spend the winter?” she asks, genuinely curious. It isn’t the first place that Aurora would have thought of, based on their reason for coming, and if they’ve never been here before, what could have prompted their choice?
