This is no ordinary love

Creamy plumes of carbon dioxide fled from her whiskered nostrils with every passing breath. As the sun dipped low in the sky, eventually disappearing beyond the horizon completely she sighed, internally bracing for the cold temperatures that were to come as the sky grew dark. It felt so strange to be the "new girl" in a herd. She'd never really experienced it in this form before. Nova wasn't exactly sure of her status here. Was she technically Orkaan's captive? Or if she decided she wanted to leave this place at a later time, was she free to do as she pleased? Nova of course had no intention of testing her limits with this stallion so soon. Unlike with Koray, whom she tested right away and was defiant every day after her arrival, she was bound here because of Shamwari. It didn't help that she was morbidly obese in terms of her pregnancy. This foal would become a very real thing for her in just a matter of weeks, as the weather began to turn.

Nova's sooty-colored ear lobes flick forward and back at the sound of a disturbance, the call of another ringing clear through the crisp night. Her icy blue stare studied the silhouettes of trees in the darkness, blinking in rapid succession as the frame of a painted mare approached. At first, Nova's heart fluttered in her chest when she mistook the mare to be Evren. Nova was reminded of her lost friend at nearly every turn in the Inlet, which was baffling to her. Every so often, she'd pause when she thought she caught her friend's scent in the chilly breeze. Nova would shrug it off quickly though, attributing her confusion to being new to this terrain and the hormones that were surging through her.

"Hi." Nova responded, watching the mare as she drew close. She was quick to pepper her with questions, but never asked for her name. Nova snorted once, and stomped a forehoof into the hard snow as she considered this. "No, I'm new here. Why?" She countered. But before the painted mare could explain further, a second mare appeared, this one a ghostly appearance in the dead of night. She was delicate and cheery, dainty and pretty. Nova suppressed the desire to roll her eyes at her bubbily gimmicks before she spoke, making mental note that Orkaan probably really liked this little snowflake. He proved her right when he too, joined their growing gaggle, making sure to touch her and not the painted mare, in introduction.

Nova backed up a few steps from the group as they gathered, apprehension plastered across her features, but bobbed her head in acknowledgement as the stallion spoke. Orkaan took the liberty of introducing her to the herd so she didn't bother to answer Jaci's question. Nova shot a side-eyed glare to the painted mare Orkaan called "Phi". She too, seemed somewhat skeptical. Nova logged that away to dwell on later. Nova felt Orkaan's eyes heavily on her growing abdomen, and she did her best not to squirm under his gaze. He made it readily apparent that he wanted to play a role in her foal's life, which Nova considered with mixed feelings. What Orkaan didn't know was that this wasn't Koray's kin growing inside of her. It was Fallo's. She hadn't seen the bachelor stud since their brief meeting on the Crossing Isle those many months ago, and he gave no indication that he had any desire to be involved in the child's upbringing. Perhaps Orkaan's interest was a blessing in disguise, but still, something about it didn't sit well in Nova's stomach. "Hello everyone." She said hoarsely, offering Orkaan a weak and short-lived smile.
