Friday, September 15, 2017 ANNUAL JOINT CLUB MEETING 7:30 (Doors open at 7)

Mark Peck: "The Value of Citizen Science in the 21st Century"

Mark Peck manages the ornithology collections at the Royal Ontario Museum, where he has worked for over thirty years. He began his career there as a tree-climbing nest finder (!) and has since broadened his skills to include not only collections manager but also field researcher, public speaker and interpreter, nature photographer, and gallery developer. Applying his deep knowledge of Ontario ornithology, Mark has also worked for many years on the Ontario Bird Records Committee.

Mark will speak to the joint meeting of the Simcoe County nature clubs. His interest in natural history has not only formed his career work, but he has also been engaged in many citizen science initiatives, most recently with the opportunities afforded by the internet and its capacity for storing great quantities of citizen-generated sightings and other data.
