CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

Can you Help to stop suicide attempts
IP: 217.44.72.31

As most of you are aware there have been a number of successful suicide attempts in the last 12 months by veterans of the Regt. At the last Regt Council meeting we discussed the possibility of contracting an individual/individuals to act in a signposting/listening type role. This is still being looked at by RHQ.
However, Rev’d Andrew Rawding (ex 2nd Bn and now a priest based in NI) was very active in preventing a suicide in Aug of a former Fusilier who phoned Andrew asking for his help. The Northumberland Assn (Chester and Graeme) have since worked hard to sp the individual and to engage with the appropriate agencies to provide the correct sp. This case proved the strength of the Assn and the Regt family.
Andrew, apart from being a priest, is also a civilian trainer for safeTALK – suicide alertness trg. Details below but more can be read at www.livingworks.net/programs/safetalk
. Andrew has very kindly offered his services to the Regiment to run a number of training sessions for the Regiment. The sessions last about 3 hours and it is planned to conduct them in the 4 areas and (if required by 1st Bn in Tidworth). Andrew has provided some detail below but in outline we would look to:
at hold the trg sessions midweek in Newcastle (Anzio), Bury, Sheldon, RHQ and Tidworth (if reqd)
Gp size between 10 and 30. Task: Area Secs/Assn Chairs advertise the trg and see what demand there is. Midweek trg but Andrew is content to offer trg sessions in the evening. Once we have 10+ avail for trg we will look at arranging a convenient date/time with Andrew.
We will invest in the trg pack as this will give some accreditation to those that attend.
Andrew is offering 2 x sessions before Christmas – initial thoughts are to hold sessions in Newcastle and Bury but this depends on uptake.
There may be wives/partners who may want to attend the trg and form part of the Regimental network. From an RHQ viewpoint we would have no objections.
RHQ will cover T&S for Andrew.
If you are wanting to help and do the course please contact Chester Pott for the Newcastle Course or Steven Fitt to do the Bury Course
