Barrie Lions are building up

A breeding-plumaged Pacific Loon was reported yesterday among 100s of Common Lions off Minet's Point in Barrie.

I was there at noon today and saw the bird in fine light with no wind. There were in excess of 500 Common Loons, and there were numbers of Double-crested Cormorants and Red-necked Grebes as well.

It seems likely that this represents that great pairing of natural events -- the southward loon migration and the moving into Kempenfelt of large numbers of Emerald Shiners.
