This is no ordinary love

Nova was grateful for the summer season. On Tinuvel, that meant longer days and warmer temperatures. It was all relative, of course, because the conditions here were still cooler than even the dead of winter on Salem. And the sunshine shown less in here during its peak months in the summertime than the Prairie, where it was nearly sunny all year round. Living on the only arctic island definitely took some getting used to. But Vita Nova had done it before, and she clearly could do it again. Especially now that she had Nyah to care for. Her daughter's comfort and survival suddenly took precedence over any other complaint or discomfort that Nova had previously given any weight.

The steely-colored mare grazed quietly on the lush offerings in a small valley not far from the actual seawater of the Inlet. Nyah was growing bigger and stronger every day. The sweet little filly was as kind and cuddly as ever, and Nova reveled in their many sweet embraces. During the winter and the spring, Nova barely had time to get to know any of Orkaan's herd. The harsh conditions of the long, dark winter made it difficult for the mare to find the time or place to physically start up conversation with any of them. For the most part, they just huddled together silently for warmth, occasionally following one another in an effort to find food and shelter. With the change of seasons came Nyah, and Nova had been too distracted with raising her daughter to care much about making friends anymore. It didn't help that she had crossed paths with Evren, in truth the only other horse she could seriously call her friend, just briefly here on Tinuvel. She knew Evren had planned to fight for her freedom and was concerned for her young friend. She never knew the details of what transpired between her and Orkaan, but Nova did know that Evren wasn't here anymore. Nova's heart fluttered in her chest with worry when she thought about it too much. She could only hope that Orkaan had been kind enough to let Evren go without so much of a fuss, and that her friend had landed back in the Desert on Salem with Orhan, where she belonged.

Now that summer was here and Nyah was growing at the same rate as the weeds all around them, Nova began toying with the idea of leaving Tinuvel for the Crossing Isle. Her stomach churned tight at the thought of finding Fallo, the true sire of her daughter. Didn't he deserve to see her? Their last conversation had been... well, not ideal. Fallo expressed quite clearly that he was not interested in knowing anything about their mutual spawn, let alone meeting her. But for whatever reason, that didn't sit well in Nova's gut. Orkaan had proved himself to be a kind and surprisingly nurturing co-parent of sorts. Nova was grateful for that. But she wasn't going to let Fallo off the hook that easy.

The mare continued to mull this over, all the while the mare she kept grazing. A fairly content smile was fastened upon her whiskered grey lips as she stared out across the valley and watched her daughter leap through the tall grasses while chasing a yellow butterfly.
