He had been cautious of the child, one might say: he kept an eye on her even as he feigned his ignorance. Though he knew he ought to just ignore the child, he doubted he'd be able to so much was he cursed with curiosity. The more he attention he paid, the more curious she became. He noticed the peculiar nature in which she moved, the way her ears did not slide back nor twist as others did; yet,
she did not move with fear no hesitation. Confident - like somebody else he knew. But the ears...it reminded him vaguely of his younger sibling, Enoch. Often, he'd notice his brother's eye would simply stare ahead even when the other followed something. It was as if it had become transfixed on some far away thing that no other could see. Some might have found it disturbing but Elohim? He only ever saw such things with interest.
But it wasn't just her ears that he piqued his curiosity. Instead, she had taken it upon herself to move into his space, taking an interest in the carcass he dragged. At first, he issued the lowest hint of a growl between his teeth as he jerked the meat away and further towards the den, unknowing that it would be hers eventually anyway. Yet - nothing. The growl seemed to be lost in the wind. Or she had ignored him.
So he persisted - as did she. He tried to quicken his pace, only for her to be even more tangled in his legs; he attempted to side step, but the carcass weighed him down. It was only when he had been able to cast the meat aside at the den's mouth that he had been briefly able to untangle his path from hers, cutting back several steps in a confusion. Yet, the child was like a burr, clinging to his pawsteps. Eventually, he relented though his lips had turned upward in instinct of his uncertainty as she sat herself between his legs.
It wasn't until he had leaned down slightly to meet her with his nose - something he accidentally bumped into as she jumped up - that he could really see the similarity. So faint was it that he practically laughed, a snort of entertainment given as she leapt up again. She really was Aster's? "Iocus," - a joke! - he offered beneath his breath with a languished sigh. Of couse he had found her or rather, she had come to find him.
He craned his neck once more, allowing their noses to bump again if she so desired. He wasn't sure why - he had just seen children do it before. At least, they seemed to bump into everything so why would he be different? "Who are you?" His head tilted then as he reeled back to get a better look, using the opportunity as a distraction (hopefully) as he shuffled back again, hoping to untangle her again. Persistent. Where had she gotten that trait from, hm?
