American Goldfinch is one species of finch that you can depend on being at your winter bird feeder every year in this area. Most other species move around having big erruptions one year and none the next like Pine Grosbeaks, Red Crossbills, White-winged Crossbills, Pine Siskins, Common Redpolls, Hoary Redpolls, and Evening Grosbeaks. But every year we usually have at least a few goldfinches that spend most of the winter here. They change colour in the fall from their bright yellow and black plumage to a more subtle olive colour.
