Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Return to Lunar Children
a bit of poison, a bit of powder

Arace
five - homeless - heartless - soulless

Having pups and abandoning them as cubs was much easier than having pups and actually participating in the raising scenario. Arace was quite over it already, the way the pups latched onto her teets and seemed to suck her dry of everything. Energy, time, patience. Typically when she grew too irritated she would simply stand up, ignore their whimpering, and leave the den. Surprisingly she had not turned to complaining to Starfall yet but mostly because she was devising a way to get these pups to grow up faster. When she had located Kahina after birth, the girl was old enough to be on her own. Scrappy, resilient, and intelligent. All things that Arace prized, what with her profession. She could not picture her daughter as being like the pups now. Boisterous, playful, angsty (mainly Aurora). Not to mention the fact that Arace was rather bothered - something was wrong with her genes.

She knew she had a son named Boneskull somewhere: she knew he was deaf and quite possibly dumb according to Kahina. Hence why she had not sought him out. Now she had a daughter who either couldn't or wouldn't talk and she couldn't help but feel a bit miffed that such things came from HER bloodline. At least the children were not ugly, but then, neither of their parents were.

They were getting old enough to want to venture out. Polaris had mentioned it several times but she had curbed his enthusiasm with warnings that he could get eaten. Even if she didn't particularly like being a mother, she did have the instinct that meant caring for them, and while she couldn't rightly say that she loved him, they did sometimes bring a sense of comfort and peace. Rarely.

She had been away from the den since before dawn with the intent to hunt. It was time to offer up some regurgitated food and see if they could handle it. Maybe then her belly would stop it's constant aching from milk teeth and from lactating. She had managed to catch a rather dumb witted pheasant and spent the morning chewing and swallowing until she felt quite full. With graceful steps she glides back towards their little glen. It was no longer just Starfall's and she had little intention of leaving at the moment unless the pups became too much of a handful. Then she would go beg Zelda for something to do, her bored mind already aching for purpose.

A flash of movement has her yellow eyes narrowing as she spies Aurora jump up then fall flat on the ground. What was the girl doing? Did they not LISTEN? A low growl is given in the back of her throat as she suddenly races forward, ears back, intending to scare the pups with flashing teeth. A snarl is given and then immediately she comes to a halt, snout rising in a irascible look. "See how quick I could have snatched one of you up? Hmm? You are lucky I am not one of those wolves who like to eat puppies. I've heard they taste yummy but I've never had much of a taste for pups." The words are woven in her elegant voice to scare the pups and it is a lie - she has never tasted wolf flesh, but there were those who feasted upon it.

"Well, you two are out here anyways so you might as well try something. Polaris, make sure to keep an eye on your sister. She can't shout if something snatches her." The words are said in passing, not meant to make Aurora feel bad, just blunt and truthful, but her eyes slip down to the patchy part of her daughter's legs with a frown. It is clear that Aurora does not want to talk about it just yet and Arace files it away for later, lowering her head to the ground and belly contracting as she heaves up some of the meat for them. "Try this," she encourages with a sudden gleam in her yellow eyes, stepping back to let the pups nearer. With luck their bodies would take to it and she could wean them as soon as a week!

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
